An adaptive mesh generation algorithm for numerical simulations of complicated turbulent three-dimensional flows such as Rayleigh-Bénard convection is presented. The algorithm is based on equidistribution of the arc-length of the mean temperature profiles computed on coarse equidistant meshes. The suggested mesh generation algorithm produces meshes that provide required resolution of the boundary layers and was successfully used in the direct numerical simulations of turbulent Rayleigh-Bénard convection in cylindrical containers of the aspect ratio for high Rayleigh numbers and .
